Deduction #53. Artificial Teeth

We’re rounding up the last of the possible 1000+ Business Deductions that have to do with artificial body parts.

Megan, my partner at USTaxAid Services, Cash Flow Accounting and Nexus Negotiator, suggest a new deduction possibility for artificial teeth.

If you’re in a business that requires a stage presence, then the cost to keep up your personal appearance can be deductible. But don’t get too carried away. We’ve seen some back and forth on this at the Tax Court case level. In one case, the cost of breast augmentation was allowed as a legitimate business deduction for a Las Vegas showgirl. And in another case, it was disallowed.

The general rule of thumb is that something you buy for business must be used just for business and you derive no personal benefit from it.

  1. Very interesting post. I’ve come across this type of thing while preparing returns for models and actresses.

What do you think?
